You face tough decisions everyday. Do you have what it takes to be a hero of character? How would you handle these real life situations? Okay, let's see what's happening….

Question: Bullies

Uh-oh. This looks like trouble. You see some kids surrounding another boy and they don’t look friendly. Those kids are really teasing him. Then it gets serious. Now it’s more than just teasing. What should you do?

The real question is, are you willing to work hard to make sure the right thing happens in the right way?

Cesar Chavez faced bullies during his life, too. From an early age, he and his family had to travel from place to place looking for work. Like some Mexican Americans at that time, they became migrant workers, picking lettuce, grapes and other crops. Chavez was doing this back-breaking work full-time by age 15. He and his fellow workers were teased and called hateful names by the same people who ate the food the workers produced. Chavez didn’t let this bother him. Instead, he organized the farm workers. Through strikes and boycotts, they finally started getting fair wages and humane living conditions. Although Chavez never earned a lot of money or owned a house, he worked hard to be sure others had a decent quality of life. To this day, workers like those Chavez helped produce the food we enjoy in our homes, supermarkets and restaurants.
