What's so important about Character Education?

More and more schools are incorporating character education lessons in the classroom for the simple reason that helping young people develop positive character will enable them to succeed at school, at work and in life.

Schools with effective character education programs have students who:

  • Have better attitudes about learning and improved academic achievement
  • Know more about the importance of values and have improved moral reasoning
  • Show improved interpersonal skills, contributing to a better climate in the classroom and at school
  • Are more civic minded and likely to do service in their community
  • Avoid participating in risky behaviors

Our Heroes of Character Curriculum Guide, with a foreword by Dr. Thomas Lickona, gives an overview of character education.
